December Daily Album Update #1

Hi everyone! I finally have a December Daily album update for you! In the SP Store I have a special edition December Daily kit up for sale so if you would like to make your album right along with me, pick one of those up today. I only ordered a few of these so when they are gone, they are gone.

I made a video last week explaining this whole Project Life/Photo Freedom/ Smashbooking type of concept to scrapbooking. It is a totally new concept to me, but I am already in love with it.

It is just a great way to get more scrapbook pages done in a shorter amount of time. Full 12X12 pages might still be my favorite, but they just take a lot of time to make & so lately I haven’t really been making that many –and honestly, in my case, how many scrapbook pages do I need of each of the dogs? LOL I have a sneaky feeling once we are parents, I will go back to scrapbooking more than card making. Right now, the hubby and I just don’t have lots of things to document in scrapbook pages that haven’t already been documented -Christmas being an exception to that general rule.

Anyway so if you haven’t seen my December Daily Kit video, click here to go watch it now.

Over the next few weeks I will be posting my December Daily updates right here on the blog. I actually tried to take some photos of my progress tonight, but with the page protectors, the photos aren’t the best. So I also did a video update for you:

I haven’t yet picked the order of my other pages yet, but I know that the full 12X12 page protector is going to be the cover page to my album. I already decorated the first two pages and now all I need are the photos.

For my cover page, I cut two border strips from the patterned paper in the Dear Santa collection. I loved the big graphic “Christmas” so I started with that. I used the large scallop die from Papertrey Ink to create a big scallop border strip out of the red and white striped border strip. Since both of these borders were red, I wanted to shave some contrast between them so I went with one of the element sticker sheets, which was blue.

Well, the elements in this collection weren’t perfect 12 inch long strips so the ends didn’t line up perfectly so I used this opportunity to add the year at the bottom of the border strips! I used one of the journaling shapes & then added these glitter foam Thickers to the end. These Thickers are from the Amy Tangerine line for American Crafts. These ones are super small so they worked perfectly in that tiny element sticker.

Next, I knew I wanted to write about Christmas on the page, so I picked a larger journaling shape from the Dear Santa pack and journaled.  To connect the journaling shape to the page, I used some washi tape from the My Mind’s Eye Winter Wonderland collection & a cute little heart brad.

I decided I wanted to add the cute little Santa element sticker so I decided to add a strip of patterned paper underneath it for some more visual interest. This strip was just cut from one of the patterned papers I included in the Special Edition December Daily Kit. These sheets I included are also available individually in the SP Store.

Then to decorate the background paper (which was Kraft cardstock from Stampin’ UP), I used the snowflake stamps from the SP and Company Christmas Medley stamp set and some Pool Party ink (from Stampin’ UP).

For the other side of this full sized page protector, I made a layout for December 1st which is when we decided to do all the Christmas decorating. I will most likely just have all the photos printed after the holiday, I just left spaces for photos on this layout.

The patterned paper I used for the background was also a patterned paper I incuded in this special edition December Daily kit.  I added the title “Decorate” using some polka dot glitter Thickers.

I also added some photo mats for two 4X6 photos.

The journaling shape I had left to use for this page was too large so I cut it in half (after I already planned all the rest of the journaling areas in the album).

On both pages, I used the Amy Tan Roller Date stamp to add the date.

Here are some more still shots of some of the pages planned out a bit:

Monday I will have a project for the 25 Days of Copic Christmas so I will see you back here soon! Have a great night!

  1. Marla, oh my gosh, I am so behind on scrapping it is ridiculous! I need to play catch up too. I am thinking along the same lines as you, this method of scrapping will make it much quicker to catch up & it won’t be quite so overwhelming for us.

  2. I can’t wait to see how you decorate and put this album together. I am a year behind in scrapbooking and HATE that so it makes me NOT want to take any more photos which is sad because then I miss out on some memories of holidays etc, and parts of my child’s teenage years. I think that I should do a bunch of pages in this system so I can get caught up and the stories written down before I forget them!!! Thanks for the prompting!!!
