Frugal Friday #12 DIY Ribbon Rose

Hi everyone! Happy Friday to you!

I hope your week has been great. Mine has been pretty good. I spent a lot of time this week reading Les Miserables. I am still only about 30% done with the book, but it is like 1700 pages so I still think that is pretty good. Let me tell you, I am totally OBSESSED with Les Miserables!!

When I saw a preview for the movie, I had actually only heard of Les Miz, but I had never seen it, read the book, or anything. I actually didn’t know anything about the story at all. Well when I saw the preview, I went to Wikipedia to just read the plot and I was hooked on it, just from reading the
plot overview! The story is just so beautiful in of itself.

Well I downloaded the book on my iPad that same night and started reading it -just a few pages a night, nothing to serious at this point just enjoying it (the book is written beautifully!). A few days after Christmas, my hubby and I went to see the movie in theaters, and that is when I became totally obsessed.

I downloaded the movie soundtrack that night and pretty much played it non stop for weeks after that (I still kind of do! LOL). About a week after I first saw it, I convinced my mom to go see it in theaters with me (second time for me!). My mom liked it, but she wasn’t totally crazy about it like I was. Then I invited my mother-in-law to go see it with me & I knew she already loved Les Mis so we went to see it together (third time for me, first time for her).

I got a call from her over the weekend telling me she had gone to see it again (her second time!), and invited me to go see it with her again next weekend!! So she and I are both totally crazy over this movie! It will be 4 times seeing it for me and 3 times seeing it for her.

I don’t think I have EVER even gone to see a movie twice in theaters before. I usually don’t even go to the movies very often, my hubby and I are kind of cheap so we just wait for movies to come out on Netflix lol. That just kind of shows you how great I feel like this movie really is! I will definitely be purchasing the DVD when it comes out!! Anyway, so long story short, go see Les Miserables if you haven’t seen it yet! IT’S GREAT! I know we aren’t the only two obsessed ones.

Now, let’s talk about the real reason I am writing to you today. . .

It’s Frugal Friday! This week I created a fun DIY ribbon rose! Seriously, the thing came out totally awesome!

I can’t take credit for the idea at all. Sharon over at Created By You offered this wonderful tutorial on how to make a HUGE ribbon rosette. Her rosette came out to about 3 inches, but I just changed the dimensions so that I could make one for a card. After I made the flower, I made a card with it. I had a bit of an issue with my filming. My camera battery completely died near the end and I thought I was filming!  So you missed me stamping the sentiment so I wrote out those last details below the video. Despite missing the ending, I still hope you will enjoy it!

This is just one of those items that came out so neat! Sometimes when crafting, I just have a WOW moment and this was one of them. It was pretty simple to make too.

The camera cut off right as I had assembled all the layers and it was time to stamp my sentiment. I stamped the big LOVE using the Timeless Typewriter Alphabet stamp set with some red ink from Stampin’ UP.

Then I attached the ribbon rose with Glue Dots and that was it! So simple, yet stunning!

So that’s all I have for you today! What do you think of that flower?  Neat, huh? I shall be back tomorrow to share a family update with you on how we’ve been holding up post-Skyeler. I actually had intended to write just a few lines about it because some of you have been asking how we were, but when I started writing, everything kind of just spilled out. When I went back to proofread, I felt like it all needed to be said so I left it there for you. It’s a pretty good look into our lives and into my inner world. I hope that you will give it a read. I’ve been working to share more of myself with you, just besides the crafty projects.

Even my mom reads my blog and she mentioned to me that I don’t really share anything personal with you guys. Well, there is a reason for that! I am a little scared to really put myself out there.  But I am working on it 🙂 Anyway, I really conquered that fear in my post tomorrow. I hope that you get to know a little bit about our lives.
