Big Announcement + Wrapped Up Cupcake Card

Hi everyone! Happy Monday!  I announced something major on our Sunday Scoop yesterday but just in case you missed it: We are going DIGITAL, as in digital stamps!  Today, our first two digital stamps came out from our amazing artists Gill Roberts! She’s got two digital stamps that are perfect for Cupcakes & Candy Week: Mouse with Cupcake (which I used today) and Floral Cupcake. Grab them up, start coloring up a storm, and link up for Cupcakes & Candy Week! (And don’t worry! We are still releasing plenty of photopolymer stamps too!)

I used the adorable Mouse with Cupcake on my project today. I just love how adorable this little guy is and what could be better than cupcakes? 😉

I cut out the Mouse with Cupcake image with a Label die from Spellbinders. Once cut out, I left the die around my image and then airbrushed using Copic BG53 with my Copic Airbrush System. When I took the die off the image, I was left with a nice white edge!

The patterned papers I used are from the My Mind’s Eye Merry Little Christmas paper pad. Although they were part of a Christmas paper pad, they worked perfectly for this cupcake themed card because they were bright and cheery. This paper pad is not in the SP Store, I picked it up from a big box store a while ago.

I used the following Copic colors:

  • BG53, BG57
  • RV000, RV21, RV23, RV25, RV29
  • T0, T2, T4

The sentiment I used came from the Season of Giving Reindeer stamp set, also from the Gill Roberts collection.

To decorate the card, I used some Caribbean & Pink Sorbet twine from The Twinery. I looped the twine through a Coconut Oil colored button.

The finished card measures 5x5inches (5x10inch piece of paper scored at 5inches).

All in all, I LOVE how this card turned out. The airbrushing just pushed it over the edge for me. Now I need more dies 🙂  That’s all for today. Be sure to grab up some digis & I will see ya again on Wednesday with another Cupcakes & Candy project. Don’t forget to link up your creations!

  1. Aw, thank you so much! That made my day!! I like to think I am doing something wonderful, but most days, I don’t really feel/see it. HA!

Good luck getting your printer. Once you go laser, you never go back, lol. Oh, be sure to check the Black Friday ads at the office supply stores like Staples and Office Depot. I got my big laser printer at Staples maybe 3-4 years ago on Black Friday. It is one of those professional office ones and it was less than half the regular price. I’m guessing they always have a few printers marked down like that.

  2. Love the new digis. A laser printer is on my wish list. Also, you’re doing an amazing job, Samantha, with SP & Co.! Thanks so much!

  3. I also use a laser printer, but when I used an inkjet in the past–I always tried to avoid coloring on the lines. Also, it helps if you let the images set overnight before coloring them.

  4. I have an HP laserjet printer. It is pretty old so I don’t think they make this particular one any longer. Inkjet printers seem to be more difficult for Copic coloring. You could try heat setting the ink with your heating tool before coloring.

Also there are sealants you can buy to spray over the ink before you color.

The other thing I have read is that you can change your printer setting to “draft” or “grayscale” and it will use less ink so hopefully it will not be enough to smear.

The good thing about laser printers is they work by heat setting the toner (a powder) so the ink doesn’t smear. It can flake off your paper if you aren’t careful, but it has been heated to get on the paper in the first place, not a liquid ink like inkjets.

I hope this helps! I’ve seen some threads floating around SCS about printing digis. I can try to dig those up if these don’t work for you.

  5. What kind of printer do you have? I tried printing out a digi stamp before and when coloring with my copics it smeared!!! I have an inkjet printer (brothers)
